Charith Zickmund Biography American Legion Auxiliary Department of Vermont President 2026–2027 Welcome to the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Vermont! Whether you are a longtime member, a veteran or military family, or someone visiting our website for the first time, I am delighted you're here. I invite you to explore our website and discover the many ways the American Legion Auxiliary serves veterans, active-duty military, their families, children, youth, and communities throughout Vermont. Every act of service, no matter how small, helps us fulfill our mission and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My name is Charith Zickmund, and I am truly honored to serve as the Department of Vermont President for the 2026–2027 administrative year. I am proud to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside an incredible network of volunteers who are dedicated to making our communities stronger and improving the lives of those who have served our nation. I am eligible for membership through my husband, an Army veteran, and I am blessed to have many veterans throughout my family whose service and sacrifice have inspired my lifelong appreciation for those who have worn our nation's uniform. Their example reminds me every day why the American Legion Auxiliary's mission is so important and why we must continue serving with purpose, compassion, and gratitude. This year, I am honored to support Military Kids, VT as my President's Project. Military children demonstrate remarkable resilience as they navigate deployments, frequent moves, and the many unique challenges that come with military life. By supporting these young heroes, we are investing in the future of our military families and strengthening the communities they call home. My theme for this year is "Strengthening Our Foundation." The inspiration comes from my grandmother-in-law, Mary Etta, who proudly served as a Rosie the Riveter in the Baltimore shipyards during World War II. Rosie became an enduring symbol of determination, hard work, resilience, and teamwork. She demonstrated that when people unite around a common purpose, extraordinary things can be accomplished. As members of the American Legion Auxiliary, we have that same opportunity today. We can strengthen the foundation of our organization by getting back to basics—embracing our mission, supporting one another, welcoming new members, mentoring future leaders, and remaining focused on serving veterans, military families, and our communities. A strong foundation is built one act of service at a time, and together we have the ability to ensure that our organization remains vibrant and impactful for generations to come. Throughout this year, I encourage every member to roll up your sleeves and channel your inner Rosie. Let her determination inspire your actions, her resilience strengthen your resolve, and her "We Can Do It!" spirit remind us that no challenge is too great when we work together. By focusing on the fundamentals of who we are and why we serve, we will continue building an American Legion Auxiliary that is welcoming, compassionate, mission-driven, and ready to meet the needs of those we serve.
